SPM is a measure of momentum. It shows how quickly a channel is growing its subscriber base.
I like SPM because it’s a relative measure that accounts for the age of a channel. It allows me to see when a smaller channel is growing quickly. Let’s compare April Wilkerson and Handyman Graham to illustrate.
- April has a much larger subscriber base in part because her channel has been around since 2012. At the time of this writing, she had 1.6 million subscribers.
- Graham just launched his channel in 2025 and has about 100K subscribers.
- And yet, both are adding about 10K subscribers per month. That’s not a knock on April – 10K/month is outstanding. It’s more of a compliment to Graham. The fact that he’s adding 10K/month as a new and smaller channel is truly impressive!
