The top 10 YouTube Woodworkers by views per video (VPV) are shown in the chart below. The counts are accurate as of the pull date shown in the YouTube Woodworkers Dashboard.
VPV is a measure of quality. The better the video, the more it is viewed. It’s an indicator that the content is highly desirable and valuable, or the production quality is extremely good, or both.
It’s worth noting that Tuan CT, Yasuhiro TV, and TWCDesign – consistently three of the top five in this metric – share a key trait. None of these channels utilize voice tracks. Some videos from Tuan CT use an AI voiceover, but the majority of the audio is woodworking sounds. I think it’s because English is a second language for these woodworkers. It forces them to use a lot of close-up shots so the viewer can clearly see what’s being done, rather than a voice track to explain what’s being done.
And so a weakness becomes a strength. If I took the time to measure the portion of the video that is delivering value, it would be something north of 90% for these woodworkers. It’s super high because they aren’t devoting any time to verbal explanations, sponsored ads, humor, stories (no matter how relevant), requests for likes and subscribes, etc. They go straight to a woodworking technique and then end. It’s a terrific style of video production, particularly for viewers that are more interested in learning than being entertained.
